SQUARE LAP BOX

These pantry containers used by the colonists and dating to the 1600’s were designed and crafted to store cheese and butter, spices, small quantities of sugar, meals, and powdered herbs. Factory production of "pantry boxes" did not start until the 1850’s, about the same time Daniel Cragin established Frye’s Mill. The tops and bottoms are carefully fitted with clear maple, and the sides (also maple) are hand bent around molds at the Mill over 100 years old! The vertical lap joints of these round boxes are fastened with brass tacks.

A slightly heavier, maple veneer is hand bent around the Shaker #11 and #14 molds to create a tray perfect for serving or display. For added durability, a handrubbed water-resistant finish is applied. Fruitwood only.
