When, almost two decades ago, we established Vermont Furniture Works here in the Green Mountains of Vermont we were committed to creating beautiful hand crafted locally made furniture of sustainable Northern Forests Timber. All our hard and soft woods are American grown and harvested in forests protected by State and Federal regulations. We primarily build from Clear Maple, Tiger Maple, Cherry, and American Walnut. Our finishing processes have been as an environmentally "green" as we could make them consistent with an end product that would stand rigorous daily use.

Until Vermont Natural Coatings was developed in the laboratories of The Univeristy of Vermont, we had not found a completely green finishing coating that met standards we require for our furniture finish and had the added advantage of extremely low VOC's. We are delighted to represent Vermont Natural Coatings Floor and Furniture Finish products and feel confident that the quality of the finish represents a forward leap for the coatings industry. We have always hand finished our furniture with an oil based custom blend to avoid the noxious fumes that invade the environment with spray finishes.

Vermont Natural Coatings can be sprayed with no negative affect on either the furniture finisher or the environment.

We are pleased we can now offer to those who desire it, furniture that is completely "GREEN "and earth friendly, from the woods used to the stain to the finish. In addition, we can create new hand crafted furniture from reclaimed lumber and have FSC certified cabinetmakers available to us.
