Custom Furniture Orders Info
We have established great working relationships
with several carriers. Three of them work exclusively on a blanket-wrapped
basis, which means they will pick up your furniture at our cabinetshop,
wrap it appropriately in furniture pads, hand-carry the piece onto
their truck, and secure it there. These carriers are experienced
at handling furniture and have very good reputations. They will
also carry your piece into your home and place it where you want
it. Some will even help assemble our beds. (There may be additional
charges for this). These carriers are small operators, so we have
to coordinate with their schedules. Sometimes this means a delay
in getting pieces to various locations. For instance, there may
be a month in which none of the carriers are headed south or out
west to certain areas. However, we believe short delays are worth
the wait because these carriers have such good reputations and track
records with handling our furniture.
We also have the services of a regular long-distance
freight company which we use when the other services aren’t available
for various reasons. When we contract with this company, we crate
the item ourselves. We take great care to crate every piece carefully
and see to it that it goes on the truck in excellent condition.
The basic service this company provides is what is called "tailgate
service." Your responsibility begins at the tailgate of the trailer.
All of our shipping services are completely insured
against damage.
Shipping is a necessary aspect of working at a
distance from our clients. We do this every day, to all parts of North America. The overall cost of shipping is
primarily related to the cost of making a trip to the client’s home
and to a lesser degree, the number of pieces being delivered.
Typically, shipping prices range from a few hundred dollars to
several hundred dollars depending on the distance and number of
pieces. The best way to determine
shipping price for one or several pieces of furniture you may be
interested in is to contact us (call toll free 888-822-8393 or email
us at info@vtfurnitureworks.com) and request an estimate. There is no obligation for
doing this, so we look forward to hearing from you!
Anyone who wishes to may avoid the
freight charges by picking up the furniture
personally or by contracting directly with a freight company of his
or her choice.
Claims and Damages
Call us immediately! We can help. Do not let the
driver leave until there is some resolution.
If your piece of furniture arrives blanket wrapped,
please inspect it upon arrival. If you find damage, tell the driver,
make a note on the bill of lading describing the damages. If it
is severe, refuse the delivery, if the damage is minimal, or cosmetic,
we can usually guide you through how to correct the problem. If
there is damage, keep the driver there, do not let them leave without
resolution.
If your furniture comes on common carrier crated,
at a minimum, inspect the crate for signs of damage. If there are
none, sign for it and release the driver or take the time to open
the crate or carton and inspect the piece itself. If there is damage,
note it on the bill of lading and again, it is your choice to keep
or refuse the delivery. If there is damage, keep all the packing
materials. This is very important! Do not destroy anything until
an inspector has seen the furniture and the packaging.
These shipment are insured but it is yours and
Vermont Furniture Works, responsibility to prove the shipping company
has created the damages. Documentation is crucial. Photos are a
great way to do this. Make sure any damage is noted on the Bill
of lading before the driver leaves.
